Successful SOPHIA symposium at ECO 2026 in Istanbul

Thanks to all for a great ECO 2026!

We celebrated 6 years of SOPHIA at ECO 2026 in Istanbul by introducing the next steps in obesity management - the development treatment targets that can align with the standards for other chronic diseases.

Thanks to Coordinator Carel le Roux from University College Dublin, Julia Dunn from Eli Lilly, and Industry Lead David Ørsted for chairing the SOPHIA 'Treat to Target' symposium.

David Ørsted presented the achievements of SOPHIA, Luca Busetto explained the development of absolute versus relative treatment targets, Francois Pattou discussed how these targets differ for those undergoing bariatric surgery, and Donna Ryan showcased the achievements that got us to where we are today.

Thanks to all who joined - and we look forward to sharing the work from new initiatives working towards building future treatment targets.

SOPHIA has received funding from the Innovative Medicines Initiative 2 Joint Undertaking under grant agreement No. 875534. This Joint Undertaking receives support from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation program and EFPIA and T1D Exchange, Breakthrough T1D (JDRF), and Obesity Action Coalition.
